what does a dreambox work???

i was wondering what these dreamboxes do as i have heard you can get all these pay/ sky box office channels for free? is this correct? i currently have a sky + 180 box in lounge with output coax with magic eye to bedroom. if it was possible to get this for free would i need another dish or use same one?
